Every year the Budget, new laws and price changes reshape how Mauritians live: what we pay at the till and the pump, when we can retire, what our children study, what our businesses can do. Yet the documents that announce these changes are written for Parliament and specialists, and most coverage is about the politics. MoBriefs exists to close that gap.
Why MoBriefs exists
A healthy democracy needs citizens who understand the decisions made in their name. Not slogans, not rumours on social media: the actual measures, the numbers behind them and their consequences. When people understand how a pension reform, a fuel price formula or a sugar tax works, they can plan their own lives better, hold decision-makers to account and take part in the debate on equal terms. MoBriefs' purpose is to inform: to make the economy of Mauritius understandable to everyone, whatever their background.
What you will find here
Country & sector KPIs
The key numbers of the economy, each explained in plain English: what it means, how it moved over five years and why, where it stands now, and what it means for you.
Briefs that go deep
Short to read but thorough: who is affected and by how much, with worked examples, charts and infographics you can click to understand.
The bigger picture
Every brief compares Mauritius with an economy that faced the same choice in the past, and one facing it today, so we learn from others' successes and mistakes.

How we work
- Every number is sourced. Figures link to Statistics Mauritius, the Bank of Mauritius, the Budget documents, the IMF, the World Bank or OANDA, so you can verify them yourself.
- Facts first, opinion labelled. Where MoBriefs makes a judgement, for example who gains or loses from a measure, it says so.
- All sides of the story. Households, workers, pensioners, businesses and the State: each brief looks at how a decision lands on each of them.
- Corrections are welcome. Tap “Report an error” on any brief. Fixes are listed at the top of the article with their date.
How to read our labels
Independent and free
MoBriefs is independent and free to read, with no paywall: the people most affected by a cost-of-living measure are often the least able to pay to read about it. It is not a news service, does not tell you how to vote, and is not personal financial advice. It is a place to understand what is happening, why, and what it means for you.
