Where it stands

Weaker again in 2026: Rs 47.15 per US dollar on 2 October 2026 (OANDA mid-market rate), against an official average of Rs 46.00 in 2025.

What it means

Since 2019 (Rs 35.47 per dollar on average) the rupee has lost about a quarter of its value against the dollar. Because Mauritius imports most of its food, fuel and goods, a weaker rupee feeds straight into shop prices. Exporters and hotels, paid in euros and dollars, gain; households and importers lose.

2024: Rs 46.42: the weakest annual average of the period.
