Current account balance in Mauritius
The balance of all money flowing in and out for goods, services and income. Negative means the country spends more abroad than it earns.
Where it stands
A deficit of 6.4% of GDP in 2025 (IMF estimate); the IMF projects 6.9% for 2026, before the full effect of this year's fuel price increases.
What it means
Mauritius has run current-account deficits for years, financed by investment flows through its financial centre. That works only while investors stay confident: one more reason the financial centre's reputation matters to everyone.
